What is compatibility?
One of the challenges of software development is ensuring that the product works properly on the different platforms and operating systems on the market and also with the applications and devices in its environment. The aim of compatibility tests is to locate application problems by running them in real environments, thus ensuring you do not launch any product that could damage your corporate image or increase maintenance costs.

The
inQA.labs laboratory
The rapid development in new operating systems, software components and browsers means that it is not always feasible for a software-development company to invest in and maintain the kind of infrastructure used to carry out compatibility tests. The inQA.labs laboratory is equipped with a wide variety of hardware, operating systems, network systems and software applications that can be easily configured to recreate any kind of network or IT environment.

inQA.labs methodology
It is not always possible to test every combination of hardware, operating system and software. Compatibility tests therefore aim to produce a reasonable evaluation of the product by testing a representative sample of combinations. The methodology designed by inQA.labs provides a tailor-made solution in terms of budget and time to minimize the risk of compatibility problems and improve the quality of your product. This methodology includes the following services:
Expert advice on identifying areas of risk in terms of product compatibility |
Preparation of a Compatibility Test Plan, which specifies the tests to be carried out |
Creation of platform and scenario matrices to test the product |
All testing is performed by expert engineers |

Types of products:
Software packages
We make sure your software product is compatible with different versions of the operating systems and service packs it will be used in and with the applications and devices in its environment. |
Internet and e-commerce
We create a test environment which contains combinations of previous and current versions of browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL…) running on different versions of operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS and Linux. |
Client-Server Applications
We carry out tests to ensure your application is compatible with the majority of clients and network operating systems it will be used with. inQA.labs works with you to build a test environment in our laboratory or in your facility that recreates the application's end use.
Mobile applications
If you are developing mobile applications for a business environment which involve working with several access platforms, inQA.labs will test your product by putting together the most common combinations of mobile operating
systems and hardware devices. |
Peripherals and drivers
Including printers and videogames and specialized devices: In our laboratory, we recreate the real environments peripherals will be used in to ensure they are compatible with operating systems. We can also help you prepare for official certification such as Microsoft WHQL and USB... |

Localization
Increasingly, software editors need to offer local or translated versions of their products to meet the demands of the global market. Localizing software requires
rigorous testing, which can sometimes present challenges related to languages and technologies that support it, such as double-byte languages, Unicode and right-to-left writing systems. inQA.labs has developed its own methodology for testing localization that covers terminology, functionality and appearance, and is based on the use of native operating systems and translators.
